Don’t Fall Behind On Your Journey To Being Your Best!

Fall is here! The shorts and swimsuits of summer are being put away, but that doesn’t mean you should lose your motivation to stay active and healthy. Learn how to stay fit throughout the fall. School’s starting back up, the weather is changing, and days are shorter which may make it more difficult to get everything done. These changes can set you up for failure when it comes to staying consistent with a workout routine if you don’t plan ahead.

You may find yourself starting to struggle with this seasonal shift, but I am here to remind you that a lot of good can come from this change – especially when it comes to your health.

The start of the fall season provides an opportunity for you to undergo a metamorphosis of sorts – it’s a great time to assess where you are in all aspects of your life. Now is an excellent time to renew and discover which parts of yourself you’d like to embrace and expand upon.

Think of fall as the start of a new year. Rather than waiting until January 1st to set goals and make fitness and health promises, why not start now? Create healthy habits now, and you will be looking and feeling great when the hectic winter season hits.

Here are some fall health & fitness tips to keep you on track as the weather gets cooler!

BOOST YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM

Now more than ever as we continue to face COVID concerns, it’s key to stay focused on the benefits of fitness and how it relates to maintaining your health or minimizing the severity of COVID. Also, remember to hydrate with tons of water throughout the day, and your immune system will thank you. The food you eat can also help prevent the cold or the flu. Eat foods with plenty of vitamins and probiotics, such as yogurt. Another immunity booster? The fall favorite: pumpkin (which will start popping up everywhere in mid-September).

MAINTAIN A REGULAR EXERCISE ROUTINE

Another way to strengthen your immunity during COVID spikes, as well as the traditional cold and flu season is to maintain a regular exercise routine. This means being consistent in your fitness journey. We, at FITNESS PROJECT® are here to help with all of your workout needs!

TREAT YOURSELF TO SOME NEW FP GEAR

Be ready for the slight change in weather with some fun, new gear. Just because the weather is changing doesn’t mean you have to head inside. Buy yourself a new FP t-shirt, sweatshirt, or pair of running tights to ring in the cooler weather. This little treat to yourself will make it fun to get bundled in the mornings and evenings. Stay warm, dry, and safe!

GO OUTSIDE

Spending time outdoors increases your vitamin D levels, makes you happier, and improves your concentration, according to Harvard Medical School. Mix up your fitness routine by taking a day or two a week away from the gym and getting outdoors, go for a run, hike, or bike ride!

DEVELOP A NEW SET OF FITNESS GOALS

The change of season is always the perfect time to make changes happen in your life. Create a list of personal, fitness, and professional goals that you would like to achieve this fall. Then set about making them a reality!

Fall into your fitness journey with a new yoga class, try a CYCLE class, or experience an FP50 studio fitness class. Try to schedule a consistent class or workout on the same days of the week to build a routine. It’s the perfect way to stay consistent in your fall fitness routine.

GET AN ADEQUATE AMOUNT OF SLEEP

Getting enough sleep is crucial to the proper functioning of your immune system, enhances your fitness results, and provides you some much-needed self-care. Make sure you have a well-established sleep pattern and try to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep a night.

INTEGRATE MORE MOVEMENT INTO YOUR LIFE

You may not always have time to hit the gym or go outside for an organized fitness session. Plan how you can make movement part of your day. Here are some easy ways you can do this now that the weather is cooling down:

  • Park farther away from your destination. This will increase your daily step count.
  • Skip the elevators. Always take the stairs.
  • Get outside regularly. Schedule a time to walk your dog in your neighborhood in the morning or early evening. Make this part of your daily routine (your dog will love it).
  • Walk during lunch. Make the most of your lunch break with a walk.
  • Turn your commute into a fitness session. Cycle, walk, or run to work or school.

INVEST IN AN ACTIVITY TRACKER

A fitness tracker may help you stay committed to your fall fitness program. Seeing your progress and competing against friends and family by using the tracker’s apps can make working out fun and motivating. Check out more benefits of wearable technology and fitness trackers here.

WASH YOUR HANDS

Not that we really need to be told this after the last year and a half being told of the importance of washing your hands but continue to do so frequently with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds to prevent the spread of germs and to avoid getting sick. Be sure to wash your hands before touching your face, eyes, or mouth.
